Freedom, or Free/Dumb?

You may think that the title of this article is completely nonsensical, but keep reading - it makes PERFECT sense.

There's a disturbing shift happening in our world today. We're even beginning to see it here in our own nation. It's a shift between a freedom-loving people and a "Free & Dumb"-loving people. In the past, people used to think that being independent and free from government control was a *good* thing. This was back when people also plowed and planted their own land, made their own furniture, drove 10 miles to church on Sunday in a horse & buggy and WORKED for a living. These people, our forefathers, were the kind of people we all like to think we are - Godly, hard-working, honest people who made their own way in life. According to them, as long as God was in control of their lives and the government wasn't, they were happy. They were perfectly content to do backbreaking work to eek out a meager living, because they were doing it themselves, with the help of the Lord - they weren't rich, they weren't especially affluent, they didn't lives lives of ease and comfort - but they were *free.*

Fast-forward to day - that's not the general mentality. Today, it's all about what I can get from the government. It's all about how I can live a life of pleasure on the public dole. Why do I need God when the Nanny State will take care of all my needs? I don't need to work for my food, I don't need to go to the Lord in prayer for my daily needs - that's all Uncle Sam's responsibility. I'm just going to sit here in my government-provided home, on my government-bought furniture, eating my government-bought food, watching my neighbor-stolen TV.

The difference is, people today don't want freedom - they want everything for free, and they want to be blissfully dumb. They don't need God, they have Lady Liberty's pursestring's at their beck and call. The answer isn't politicians, although good, Christian politicians can go a long way in solving this problem (among others.) The answer isn't more laws on the books. The answer is evangelism - the only absolute solution is to share the light of Christ, since He's ultimately in control of *any* situation. He's the only answer to the despicable state of our world. Once we share Christ, we can hope for REAL change (like how I worked that in?)

God Bless America, land of the free! For now, anyway.

Spoken like a true patriot! Once people see the Truth, they can also see the truth about other things like you have.
